On June 6, 2024, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Union (BMU) announced the formation of its novel state committee in West Bengal, adding fresh energy to the fight for the rights of organized and unorganized workers in the state. In the wake of the Lok Sabha elections, BMU has pledged to be a beacon of hope for the welfare of workers.
This statement had special significance due to the presence of the All India President of BMU and renowned social activist, Honorable Baban Ghosh. All India General Secretary Honorable Sanath Sardar has formally announced the formation of the novel West Bengal State Committee. National Vice President Prosenjit Dey and National Treasurer Rabi Shankar Das were also present.
The newly elected State President, Amal Kumar Bhunia, expressed his gratitude stating, “I am grateful and proud to take on this responsibility. Various sections of the state trade unions now fall under our organization and I am committed to freeing workers from exploitation by adhering to all BMU regulations.”
BMU also presented its plans for the future, prioritizing improving workers’ wages, working conditions and social security. The organization aims to advocate for policy reforms by state and central governments to improve workers’ living standards.
BMU state secretary Abdul Gofur Mohd Shoil and Basirhat Rural Health Awareness Association sub-branch president Rafiul Islam stressed their commitment to pressurize the central government for due recognition and approval. They expressed confidence that their demands would soon be met with the support of the BMU.
The other members of the State Committee are Sitanshu Shekhar Das, Ph.D. Bikash Chandra Mondal, Partha Aich, Ph.D. Prakash Chandra Das, Soumyadeep Talukdar, Himanshu Sardar, Sanjay Singh, Nayantara Khatun Bibi, Gouranga Tarafdar, Ruksana Parveen Bibi, Masood Ali, Anup Mandal, Buddheshwar Majhi and Adhir Chandra Baidya.
With novel leadership, BMU is poised to take decisive and positive steps towards improving the future of workers in West Bengal, supporting a prosperous and equitable society for the professional community.
