‘Challengers’ star Josh O’Connor and ‘Civil War’ star Cailee Spaeny have joined the cast of Daniel Craig’s third ‘Knives Out’ film. Last week, it was announced that filmmaker Rian Johnson and Craig would reunite for “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” a sequel to 2022’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.”
The third crime film in the series will premiere on the OTT platform Netflix in 2025. According to a report by PTI, Josh O’Connor and Spaeny will join Craig, who is set to reprise his role as notable detective Benoit Blanc in the third film in the popular series. “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” promises to be another invigorating and convoluted mystery to unravel, building on the success of its predecessors, creators have previously said. In 2019, the first film “Knives Out”, also directed by Johnson, appeared in cinemas.
Following box office and critical success, Netflix acquired the franchise from MRC and Lionsgate. Johnson and Craig returned with the standalone sequel, 2022’s “Glass Onion,” which received a confined theatrical release before premiering on the streamer.
Knives Out tells the story of Harlan Thrombey, a renowned crime writer who is found dead after celebrating his 85th birthday. However, detective Benoit Blanc investigates the case and discovers a plot of sinister intentions. The first part of the film also starred Ana de Armas, Chris Evans and Christopher Plummer.
The second part, which will be released in 2022, will tell the story of technology billionaire Miles Bron, who invites his friends for a trip to his private Greek island. When someone turns up dead, Detective Benoit Blanc takes up the case. The all-star cast included Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae and Dave Bautista.
