Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota) said on January 6 that she is actively considering a run for governor of Minnesota. It came a day after Gov. Tim Walz abandoned his re-election bid amid the growing fallout from a massive welfare fraud scandal that complicated Democratic prospects in the state.
Walz has served as governor since 2019 and won re-election in the 2022 election, defeating Republican Scott Jensen with approximately 1.3 million votes. With Walz out of office, Democrats face a battle that will hinge on public trust, accountability and the state’s response to allegations of fraud.
