Kevin Spacey objects to upcoming Channel 4 documentary Spacey unmasked, which will investigate his career and the allegations of misconduct made against him. The documentary will premiere in the UK on May 6-7.
“I will not sit idly by and be attacked by a dying network’s one-sided ‘documentary’ about me in their desperate attempt to gain ratings,” Spacey said in a lengthy post on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday. According to Hollywood reporterthe Channel 4 documentary was created after Spacey was acquitted of nine charges in a British criminal case in July 2023.
It will air on Max and Investigation Discovery, although no U.S. premiere dates have been announced. In his social media message, Spacey dismissed the British broadcaster as an appropriate platform to discuss his controversial story: “There is an appropriate channel to address the allegations against me, and it is not Channel 4. Every time I have been given the time and appropriate forum to defend myself, the allegations were not investigated and I was acquitted,” the Oscar winner said.
Spacey mentioned that Channel 4 had given him insufficient time to refute the allegations made in the documentary ahead of its scheduled UK premiere on May 6 and 7. The actor provides a detailed response to the British documentary.
During his trial in Britain, he faced nine criminal charges from four different men, including charges ranging from unwanted touching to performing oral sex on a man while he slept, one person testified, according to Hollywood reporter. The allegations relate to incidents that occurred between 2001 and 2013, while Spacey was artistic director of London’s Ancient Vic Theater from 2004 to 2015.
