House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced on July 23 that Republicans will pursue the passage of the resolution and will form a new subcommittee on January 6, 2021 to investigate events surrounding Capitol violations.
If a resolution introduced by Rep. Barry Rudermilk (R-Ga.) is approved by the House, it will allow protesters to enter the U.S. Capitol and create a second house panel dedicated to exploring the events of the day that the 2020 election results were delayed.
