Jets’ owner Woody Johnson bashed Justin Fields amid an 0-7 start in 2025

On Tuesday, October 21st, Jets owner Woody Johnson spoke publicly to the media. The Jets are winless through seven games through the start of the 2025 season.

Despite the tough start, Woody Johnson expressed confidence in head coach Aaron Glenn. He didn’t do the same for starting QB Justin Fields. In Week 7, Fields was benched at halftime to replace veteran QB Tyrod Taylor. New York is expected to change quarterbacks ahead of Week 8. In interviews with the media, Woody Johnson basically blamed Justin Fields for the team’s 0-7 start.

After the 2024 season, the Jets parted ways with QB Aaron Rodgers. In his place, New York started Justin Fields. He signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets. This includes $30 million guaranteed at the time of the contract. In Week 1, Fields had his best game of the 2025 season in a 34-32 loss to the Steelers. Fields went 16-22 with 218 passing yards and one touchdown. He gained 12 carries for 48 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Since then, New York’s offense has struggled to remain competitive. The Jets’ 18.4 points per game this season is the sixth worst in the NFL. Subtracting Week 1’s 32-point performance, the Jets are only averaging 16.1 points per game. Despite losing to the Panthers in Week 7, New York scored six points. All of their points came from field goals.

Jets owner Woody Johnson wrote off Justin Fields while defending Aaron Glenn.

“If you see a quarterback like that as a head coach, you’ll see similar results.”

On Tuesday, Jets owner Woody Johnson spoke to the media. He publicly criticized QB Justin Fields. Johnson blamed New York’s 0-7 start on the 26-year-old. Certainly, the Jets’ offense leaves a lot to be desired heading into 2025. But Justin Fields can’t take all the blame for the Jets’ lack of wins. Woody Johnson said he would leave decisions about the team’s future to Aaron Glenn.

All signs point to Justin Fields sitting on Tyrod Taylor’s bench. The plan during the offseason was to give Fields a full season and see if he could be the long-term answer at QB. The Jets got plenty from Fields after an 0-7 start. QB is expected to be announced on Wednesday. Considering Woody Johnson’s comments, it would be surprising to see Fields become the starting pitcher in Week 8. New York is preparing to face the Bengals.
