Netflix’s Tom Brady Sunday Live Roast quickly made headlines when comedian Jeff Ross made a joke referencing Patriots owner Robert Kraft being charged with soliciting prostitution following an investigation into Florida massage parlors.
Although Brady told Ross at the podium, “Don’t say crap like that again,” Ross now claims the NFL star wasn’t all that upset about the joke.
In the Netflix special, Ross said of Brady’s early days with the Patriots: “So Tom became a Patriot and moved to Up-to-date England, and on the first day of training camp, this lanky rookie walked into owner Robert Kraft’s office and said, ‘I’m the best decision I’ve ever made. ever undertaken by your organization.” Would you like a massage?”
The joke seemed to be about an incident from 2019 in which police said they recorded Kraft paying for sex acts. He pleaded not guilty and presented the charges ultimately rejected after a Florida appellate court banned the utilize of surveillance footage at trial.
When spawning Wealthy Eisen’s showRoss directly described Brady’s reaction.
Eisen asked if the athlete was “really pissed” about the massage joke. “Come on, no way,” Ross replied. “He’s having fun. You know, it’s like it’s his dad. Robert Kraft is like a father to him; he was simply showing his love for Robert Kraft.”
Ross added that Kraft “loved it.” The comedian said: “We had a great conversation afterwards. He was so content that I greeted him and greeted him. It was attractive.”
The “Roast General” also gave insight into how the roast was put together. “It was something I asked him to do. After he won the last Super Bowl, I hit him. I knew he was a fan of meatloaf. He immediately got into it,” Ross said. “We made a deal, but then he retired and I held off on it. He retired again and then we kept it [back] back on Netflix Is a Joke Fest to bring all the comics to town.”
Ross continued: “I think it was worth the wait because [Brady] it was loose and fun and, man, I feel like we won the election or something.”
In addition to Ross, the roast hosted by Kevin Hart featured Kim Kardashian, former Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Will Ferrell (as his Anchorman Ron Burgundy’s character) and Nikki Glaser, among others.
