Jeep has been ubiquitous lately with the Wagoneer brand. It just came out novel electric version it looks more like a Grand Cherokee than a Grand Cherokee, but it’s back premium branding plans for the Wagoneer line due to the novel EV version, and now we have confirmation that it’s a bit shocking.
Autoblog reports that Jeep boss Antonio Filosa has confirmed that the Wagoneer will get a plug-in hybrid 4Xe model. In a speech during the debut of the Wagoneer S, Filosa confirmed that the Wagoneer 4Xe will utilize the powertrain from the recently unveiled Ramcharger.
If everything checks out, the Wagoneer 4Xe will utilize the brand’s 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with a 92 kWh battery and two electric motors: a 250 kWh motor at the front and a 238 kWh motor at the rear. There’s no word yet on electric driving range, but Stellantis said this Ramcharger configuration will provide 663 horsepower of total system power and enough for 1,000 km of total driving range. The Wagoneer 4Xe’s power output may be slightly different, however, as both Filosa and Jeep senior vice president and brand president Bill Peffer mentioned.
This will be a great engine option for buyers when it comes to launch, but the Wagoneer should have it debuted with this engine. Initially, the Wagoneer line launched with two V8 engine options, which was a crazy move in an era of high gas prices. Base Wagoneers are powered by a 5.7-liter V8, while Grand Wagoneers initially received a 6.4-liter V8 as the only engine option — something I called a mistake, considering thatthat’s terrible fuel consumption. This engine was recently removed due to 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Although power output increased, fuel consumption improved only slightly.
While there has been no mention of when the Wagoneer 4Xe will launch, it must be arriving soon. The Wagoneer needed this engine option yesterday.
