Veteran actor Jackie Shroff moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights. The lawsuit was filed against various entities using his name, photos, voice and the word “Bhidu” without his consent. A case has been filed against organizations who are using Jackie Shroff for commercial purposes without his consent. The court is expected to deliver a ruling on the case soon to protect the actor’s image rights.
Other Bollywood actors who approached the court for publicity rights
This is not the first time a Bollywood actor has sought facilitate from the court regarding privacy and publicity rights. Earlier, veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan had approached the Bombay High Court to prevent people from imitating the actor and using his voice without permission. On the other hand, last year Anil Kapoor also approached the Delhi High Court to protect his personal rights. Moreover, in January this year, Anil won the case and sought protection for the slogan ‘jhakaas’, his name, voice, manner of speaking, image, likeness and gestures.
