JT Miller has taken a firm stance on his dedication to the Vancouver Canucks despite rumours about his trade with the New York Rangers.
Despite rumours about the New York Rangers trade, JT Miller “keeping focus”
After contributing to two assists in Kanack’s 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers, Miller was asked about his current situation and future in Vancouver.
The 31-year-old center said: “I’m not in this. I’m planning on becoming a Kanak today and tomorrow. No matter what happens, I’m focusing on the next game.
“I don’t know if there’s anything. I’m just trying to focus on the game. I’m playing Oilers tonight and assign a matchup. Try to stay focused.”
Reports about possible trade with the New York Rangers have begun to spread as Miller has been removed from the starting lineup for the Oilers.
Miller joined Vancouver after being traded by Tampa Bay Lighting in June 2019, and in September 2022 he signed a seven-year contract that would bring Amersian $8 million a year ($56 million overall).
The deal came after Miller enjoyed the greatest year of his NHL career at the time with 99 Points (32G & 67A) from 2021-22.
In its sixth season so far, the Vancouver star has eight goals and 23 assists in 35 games as he continues to be a vital member of the team.
In November 2024, the 31-year-old took a personal holiday and missed 10 games before making his comeback in mid-December.
Miller commented on his leave of absence and decided to “dive into reasons” about why he missed 10 games between November and December 2024.
He said: “I’m playing tonight and I would really appreciate it if you could just move away from the reasons I wasn’t here.
“I’m not going to jump into why I wasn’t here in the last three or four weeks. So I’m here with my team and I’m looking forward to what will happen in the future.
Vancouver Canucks captain Quin Hughes commented on the possibility that Miller would be traded to the New York Rangers after winning the Oilers.
Hughes said: “I think it’s part of my job. I just recognize that and have a good feeling about what’s going on, but through everything, I thought everyone was amazing and especially played Mirsie.
“Especially on the third line, he was thinking about how to play against that line, and he’s really competitive, and he’s a gamer, so it’s good to watch.
“Through the last bundle of six years, he is always going to compete, show up, pay a lot of passion, lot of attention. And we know that McDavid (Leon) Draysithle, two of the world’s three best players, are in town.
