Italy and Kazakhstan signed a series of transactions worth 4 billion euros when Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Astana.
The contracts spanned a variety of sectors, including oil and gas, renewable energy and water management.
Meloni said she didn’t consider the “mere form but substantive” visit.
“Italia was the first EU nation to decide to invest in relations between Central Asia and its individual member states, and set a stable format for sharing ideas,” Meloni continued.
The Italian Prime Minister added that the EU Central Asia Summit held in April boosted relations between the regions.
Her Kazakh counterpart Qasym-Jomart Tokayev said that his country had “a very important development of trade between our states.”
“Italia is Kazakhstan’s third largest trading partner and the largest trading partner within the European Union. Its trade volume reached $20 billion (17.6 billion euros),” Tokayev said.
Before heading to Kazakhstan, Meloni visited Uzbekistan for the first battle of his trip to Central Asia, which began on Wednesday.
On the occasion, one of the main streets of Samarkand city was named “through di Rome,” said Uzbek President Shabkat Mirziyoyev.
At a meeting between Meloni and Mirziyoyev, a joint declaration was signed that a country’s agreement would pave the way for 3 billion euros.
