Silver is a established gift for the 25th anniversary and today Good price or no dice The 25th Anniversary S4 is rightly painted in Avus Silver. One of 250 special edition cars, this one also features a supercharger and upgraded wheels and brakes. We’ll see if it breaks the bank.
I think if Volvo 240 station wagon from 1986 that fell under our collective gaze yesterday were supposed to have a theme song, it would probably be Dan Hicks’ 1969 country dirge How can I miss you if you don’t want to leave? After all, these types of Volvos have a reputation for being tough and strong. What our Volvo seemed to lack was overall value. The $10,500 starting price turned out to be simply too costly for our collective tastes, which is an undeniable fact considering No Dice’s 77 percent loss.
Whether it’s a birthday, an anniversary, or the achievement of a significant personal achievement, we all like to mark milestones with full orbits of the Sun. Today Audi S4 Quattro from 2006 is a special edition marking 25 such orbits since the debut of Audi’s iconic Quattro all-wheel-drive system, which has become Audi’s dominant factor in both rally racing and brand building.
This 25Quattro has almost all of the original features that come with the 25th Anniversary Package – a factory DTM body kit, special two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, special Avus Silver Metallic paint, and some carbon fiber trim added for good measure. In addition to all these factory goodies, there are plenty of aftermarket bits added to this S4.
Most notable is the PES compressor with water-to-air intercooler, mounted in the valley of the 4.2-liter DOHC V8 engine. Without the addition of the Eaton M90, the all-alloy engine produces 340 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque. We must expect him to be burned, he should earn more now. Unfortunately, the ad doesn’t say how much money this engine makes, or what other antics – larger injectors, ECU tuning, etc. – have been done to facilitate the blower do its job. Plus, the PES pack doesn’t have the best reputation in the industry, so take it with a little NaCl.
Other updates include a set of factory-looking Ronal alloy wheels, StopTech front brakes and a built-in K40 radar sensor to protect the Po-Po. Aesthetic changes include a gloss black grille that has unfortunately lost its Quattro badging, Audi Ring door decals and, oddly enough, body-color painting of all four side marker lights. Dufuq?
Other than these updates, everything looks pretty stock and in great condition. The specially upholstered Recaro seats appear to have little or no wear. The steering wheel and the special “One of 250” shift knob for the six-speed gearbox have a similar shape.
Of course, there are plenty of toys in the cabin, including heated seats, automatic this and that, and a double-DIN stereo with Bose audio and built-in navigation. The car reportedly has only 51,374 miles on it and is neat. It is offered by a dealer doing business as Dreamrides located in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
The starting price for this alleged dream ride is $25,900.
For context, that’s about one-third of what this car was used for – minus the blower and other non-factory components – when fresh. It is also, as the gear knob reminds us, one of just 250 cars that Audi built to celebrate Quattro’s 25th anniversary. It’s also essential to consider that while aftermarket additions do make the car more unique, they detract from the uniqueness of the original confined edition.
With all this in mind, what do you think of the S4 25Quattro and its $25,900 starting price? And yes, the dealer should have just offered the price of $25,000 to stay on topic, but then again, not everyone can be as intelligent as you and me. Regardless, is this a deal for an even hotter version of the already sizzling Audi? Or maybe this is the one anniversary you plan on skipping?
You decide!
