Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have emerged as the top two teams in IPL 2024 after the league stage. As per the IPL 2024 format, both teams will have two chances to advance to the IPL 2024 final, which will be held on May 26 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Interestingly, last month, India announced their squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 15-member squad did not include any player from the top two IPL teams.
Only Rinku Singh of Kolkata Knight Riders was included in the list of reserve players for the T20 World Cup. The decision caused a lot of outrage from fans who pointed out Rinku Singh’s recent performances, in which he performed really well.
Mumbai Indians, the team that finished last in the IPL 2024 points table, has four players in its T20 World Cup 2024 squad: Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. Similarly, Delhi Capitals, who are sixth in the IPL 2024 table, have three players: Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.
If we look at the players of the other two teams in the IPL 2024 playoffs, Rajasthan Royals (RR) has three players in India’s T20 World Cup squad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has two. RR’s Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Yuzvendra Chahal will represent India in the international arena, while for RCB it will be ace batsman Virat Kohli and pacer Mohammed Siraj.
Abhishek Sharma’s call to India
While no SRH player was included in India’s 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, the veterans seem to be impressed with the team’s newborn opener, Abhishek Sharma. He has given SRH some really good starts this season and has supported Travis Head well in laying a solid foundation for some record totals.
“If you go back to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s story, he quickly jumped the rails through the IPL and the Indian side. It was a revelation in Test match cricket. It’s probably too early to say, but Abhishek could have done exactly the same,” former England captain Michael Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
“He could have easily done the same in all three formats. Its technical side is excellent. He has a swing like Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh,” he added.
