NEW DELHI: India’s Joint Secretary for International Cooperation Vishwesh Negi and US Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy Vipin Narang discussed space cooperation opportunities during the second annual US-India Advanced Domain Defense Dialogue (AD3) at the Pentagon in Washington, DC in Thursday .
Commander Jessica Anderson, spokeswoman for the US Department of Defense, said in a statement: “The dialogue implements the commitment of the US Secretary of Defense and the Indian Secretary of Defense during the 2022 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue to deepen cooperation in evolving and emerging defense domains, including space . During this year’s Dialogue, Dr. Narang and Mr. Negi discussed opportunities to strengthen space cooperation and identified potential areas of cooperation with US industry.”
Additionally, the Indian delegation also engaged with the US Space Command, the Joint Commercial Operations Cell and artificial intelligence experts from various departments of the US Department of Defense.
“At a group of U.S.-India defense officials, Dr. Narang and Mr. Negi co-chaired the first U.S.-India director-level tabletop discussion that explored areas for increased space cooperation. They agreed to develop AD3 through regular group discussions. The visiting Indian government delegation also engaged with US Space Command, the Joint Commercial Operations Cell and artificial intelligence experts from across the US Department of Defense,” Anderson said.
A separate event is the joint meeting of the India-US Defense Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) working group in Recent Delhi in April to enhance defense cooperation between the two countries. The meeting, held on April 29-30, focused on leveraging the respective strengths of both nations to enhance defense cooperation and co-production.
Key officials, including Brigadier General Joel W Safranek and Air Vice-Marshal George Thomas, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (Plans), participated in intensive sessions to discuss strategic plans aimed at deepening bilateral defense ties.
The Indian Air Force, sharing details of the meeting, said, “On April 29 and 30, the India-US Joint Working Group under the US-India Defense Technology and Trade Initiative held a two-day meeting in Recent Delhi, where Brigadier General Joel W. Safranek, director of AFSAC, met with Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit.”
“The group’s co-chairman, Brigadier General Joel W. Safranek, the director, and Air Vice Marshal George Thomas, deputy chief of the Air Staff (plans), discussed creative plans to leverage the strengths of both partner nations to enhance defense and production cooperation. DTTI is a mechanism developed in 2012 in order to deepen bilateral defense cooperation, aimed at overcoming challenges through partnership and joint research,” he added.
