In the future, your day could last 25 hours — Here’s why

Scientists make sure that the Earth’s days are getting longer – here we will see the credibility of our planet: quality stock art, meaning for the future of living in shutterstock.

We all know the drill: 24 hours a day, right? It’s always there, it’s always. With the exception…scientists now say that it’s not accurate. And over hundreds of millions of years (gift or takeover), a day on Earth can grow up to 25 hours.

It sounds like a sci-fi movie, but it’s real. The story behind it is even more fascinating than you might think.

Why isn’t Earth Day really 24 hours?

here it is. Even today, the day known as the “true” day – Swordsman’s Day is actually a little shorter than 24 hours. It is calculated in about 23 hours 56 minutes and 4 seconds. The 24-hour cycle we live in is a slightly handy fantasy tied to how the Earth rotates in relation to the Sun.

However, its spin is not completely stable. The rotation of the earth is constantly tweaked, slowed and tweaked by external forces. You don’t notice it every day (thank you!), but over the millions of years, those little changes have piled up – that’s where things get interesting.

How the Moon and other forces slow the Earth’s rotation

One of the main reasons our planet is slowing down is the moon. Yes, the same moon that you shine on the roof at night is slowly brakeing the Earth’s spin. The gravitational pull of the moon causes sea tides, and those tides act like giant space hands, gently dragging the Earth’s rotation.

But that’s not all. Transforming deeper into the Earth, changing planetary melting cores, melting polar ice caps, and even big gusts of wind in the air, they all play a small role in fine-tuning (or slowly) tweaking Earth’s turn.

If we can jump billions of years later, we can see that the Earth is spinning so fast that a day burns in just 10 hours. In a way, the watch has been slow for a very long time.

Earth’s rotation can be 25 hours, but not soon

Researchers at the Institute of Technology Munich believe that if things continue to do as they are, a perfect Earth day could last 25 hours, but not until about 200 million years from now. Therefore, you do not need to reset your alarm clock yet.

Still, if it happened, it would shake more than our watch. Think about it – everything from our sleep cycles to school timetables, working hours, and even agriculture, needs to adapt to a new rhythm.

And it’s not just humans who feel that. Even the animals, plants, how we measure a year takes a little balance. Life on Earth requires a complete schedule transformation.

Of course, it’s always on the road. But it is a reminder on earth that even time itself is nothing carved into stone.

Because if there is one thing our planet wants to do, it continues to change the rules.
