Scottish filmmaker Kevin McDonald; Touch the void and One day in September, He revealed his ambition to conduct a musical.

“I want to make a musical,” he told the audience yesterday (August 16th) at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF).

“They say it’s the hardest thing,” recalls Andrew, who produced one musical in his career. The lease’s sunlight Coach Dexter Fletcher describes him as a “great experience.”

Kevin has expressed his “jealousy” for Richard Linklater. We roll together in hilariously, Starring Paul Mescal, Ben Platt, Beanie Feldstein and Lynn Manuel Miranda for Blumhouse Productions.

“They’ve been doing it for over 15 or 20 years, a bit similar. Boyhood He did it before. What a great idea – it would be so much fun,” Kevin said.

He also spoke about his desire to direct animated documentaries after a piece about a Thai youth football team trapped in a cave. In 2018, it was announced that the project was set to be a National Geographic documentary film, and John Batzek was attached to the production.

“I was working with producers who have the rights to it and documented all these interviews with divers who rescued them. I did a lot of animation tests, and I thought it was absolutely fantastic.

Andrew, producer 28 The Zombie Thriller Franchise also revealed that he frequently went with collaborator Alex Garland with animation projects (Ex Machina, war, civil war). Garland was writing the script, and Sony paid for it for development.

The area where the brothers stay cautiously is television. “I don’t think we’ve cracked it… Drama TV is really about an ongoing series and whether it’s the best bar or not. friend or Fraser or soprano. The characters have to come first – you need to have a mentality that I don’t think I have,” Andrew said.

He produced the Garland Hulu series Developerwhile Kevin directed the pilot for the 2016 Stephen King miniseries 11.22.63, Also, in the case of Hulu. Kevin is currently developing a six- to eight-part series with Scottish author David Hallower.

Kevin said he is generally trying to alternate between creating fiction and non-fiction projects. In the field of documentaries, he found features focused on music and more celebrities – including his credits Marley, Whitney, 1-1: John & Yoko and High and Low – John Galliano – “It is one of the few documentaries that can be easily made and you can make a living.”

Meanwhile, Andrew praises Garland’s collaboration with A24 for how he has advanced his company. “It seems he (Garland) can do it all. He can come up with a script within 24 hours. Without him, it would be very difficult to make a film. Running a company is very difficult.

The beginning of a career

The brothers, grandson of Emerick Pressburger, half of the respected British film-making duo Powell and half of the Pressburger, said their route into the industry was not the result of family connections. “It’s easy to forget that Powell and Pressburger, who were back in the ’70s and ’80s, when we were growing up, were completely forgotten. No one knew because they didn’t expect Linda Miles, so there was no possible nepotism,” Kevin said.

Fox Searchlight seems to have tried to stop casting the lead role, Forest Whitaker, as Kevin said he thought he was “so gentle and sweet.” Whitaker won an Oscar for his performance as Uganda President Idi Amin.

Andrew praised David Awkin’s film director for getting his early films, Shallow grave and TrainSpottingfrom the ground. “Channel 4 had a new boss (Aukin). He wanted to do a few different things. I can’t see Channel 4 making a movie like this now.

Kevin also spoke about being given the opportunity to oversee 2009. The state of play, He was thought to be, “An all-star for adults, an intelligent thriller, an intelligent thriller for $100 million — can you imagine that today?”

Brad Pitt was initially obsessed with the cast, but he fell out of the project, feeling unhappy with Kevin’s vision. It stars Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams and Helen Mirren.

“They (Hollywood Studios) were trying to make good, intelligent films – not yet,” Kevin reflects.

On the topic of AI, Kevin said he uses it but uses it as a tool for efficiency. “I’m using AI in the projects I’m doing now… you give people the tools, but if they don’t have the story to tell it or the taste to make it, or if they don’t have the skills to make it, they don’t. I think that’s the same with AI and movies.
