Hina Khan, one of the biggest names in Indian television, made headlines when she attended the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2019. It was the unveiling of her film’s poster Lines. Her striking appearance and sartorial choices on the red carpet earned her a lot of praise. In 2022, she returned to the festival once again to present the poster of her film Country of the blind. This year, the star’s fans were counting on her return for the 77th edition of the festival. Although she wasn’t present at the event this year, she has nothing but praise for content creator and self-taught designer Nancy Tyagi, who hit the red carpet this year. I am talking with News18 ShowshaHina Khan said she is proud of the youthful pioneer.
Talking about India’s representation at Cannes this year, she added, “I couldn’t follow this edition, but I saw a few looks and they were all nice. But I really liked Nancy (Tyagi). She did great and I’m very proud of her.”
Praising Nancy further, Hina Khan said, “We have some massive designers and labels in the fashion industry here. But how many people can actually afford their outfits? Maybe only ten percent of our country can do it. Nancy really helps them by creating similar works. She sews every element and puts a lot of effort into it. And people can buy these outfits for half the price. It caters to a lot of people who can’t afford these costly clothes.”
Talking about her trip, Hina Khan said, “How I missed being in Cannes this year! I went with my videos both times. So when I have a movie, I’ll go again. I really like dressing up and I know a lot of people in Cannes. I know I have the opportunity to wear such gorgeous dresses. Except I’m not there! I miss this. I know many photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists and designers. I know that if I went there, everything would just click.”
But fans can rejoice as Hina Khan is confident of making a presence at the film festival in the coming years. “On this international carpet, people showcase high fashion and glam, but at the same time, the festival is famed for films. If I get the chance again, I’d love to go. I don’t want to just go to hell. Maybe I’ll go again in a few years. I could also go there because of the brand,” she explained.
