Mangaluru: Mangaluru Astute City Restricted (MSCL) has introduced advanced technology to improve traffic management and enforcement in the city. MSCL has installed high-resolution cameras equipped with radar and artificial intelligence (AI) tools to monitor traffic flow and effectively detect violations. Cameras will provide real-time images and AI tools will analyze captured footage to identify and track any traffic violations. These high-resolution cameras and AI tools will effectively monitor road traffic and prevent violations. These state-of-the-art cameras are being installed at 15 strategic locations across Mangaluru to provide comprehensive coverage of the city’s road network. The command and control center developed under the Astute City project was implemented in the first phase at a cost of Rs 14 crore. Meanwhile, an amount of Rs 19 crore is being utilized in the second phase. High-resolution cameras and radars will be installed at 15 intersections in the city. Poles have already been installed in Ballalbagh, Besant Junction and Kodialbail to install cameras and radar. MSCL general manager (technical) Arun Prabha KS said that the cameras will capture offenses such as jumping on signals, triple driving, not wearing helmets and seat belts and the like by clearly recording the registration numbers of such vehicles. Radars will detect speeding on the highway, he added, noting that the work would probably be completed by the end of June. As part of the second stage of the command and control center project, the implementation of a traffic management system with signal synchronization is undertaken. After the cameras record the image of the perpetrators of road offenses, summonses will be issued and the police will send notifications to the contact number of the perpetrators. He added that the corridor management system will be introduced through artificial intelligence-based command and control center software. Traffic can be controlled through an bright traffic management system (ITMS). During massive traffic, changes can be made to signal synchronization via ITMS. Roads from Kottara Chowki to Kottara, Ladyhill, Narayana Guru Circle, Ballalbagh, PVS, Navabharath Circle, Hampankatta and the stretch from Bunts Hostel, Ambedkar Circle, Hampankatta, Clock Tower, AB Shetty Circle, Hamilton Circle, Pandeshwara, Mangaladevi, Mahakalipadpu and Jeppinamogaru on NH-66 will be placed under one corridor to manage traffic, the officer said. MSCL, under Integrated Command and Control Center Phase 1, has already provided sharp poles at Kavoor, Padavinangady, PVS Circle, Narayana Guru Circle (Lady Hill), Lalbagh, Kadri Circuit House, Mallikatte, Agnes, Pumpwell, Padil, Hampankatta, Bunts Hostel , Mangaladevi, Rao & Rao and Hamilton Circle. The installed cameras will complement the sharp poles and monitoring cameras that already operate in the city, he added.
