The long-awaited Harry Potter The HBO TV series finally revealed the main cast, introducing three new actors to step into the iconic roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
Filming will begin in the summer of 2025 and the first season will air in 2026.
The new Harry Potter actor was announced after an audition of over 30k
Following a global casting call that has attracted more than 30,000 candidates, HBO confirmed:
- Dominique McLaughlin plays Harry Potter
- Arabella Stanton plays Hermione Granger
- Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley
Like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, the three are all relative rookies. It was when the original film was released over 20 years ago.
Scottish actor McLaughlin recently filmed a family comedy for Skye growing up Appears in the BBC series talent. London-based Stanton starred Matilda: Musical and Starlight Express (subway). Stout was recently featured in the Albert Bartlett Potato Campaign.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer Mark Myrod praised the new trio, saying:
“The talents of these three unique actors are hard to see and we can’t wait for the world to witness the magic together on screen.”

Participating in the trio is some well-known actors in the roles of Hogwarts faculty and staff.

- As Luke Taron Quirinus Quirrell

The series is set to last at least 10 years, with each season adapting one book in greater detail than the eight original films. HBO says it will become a “faithful adaptation” of JK Rowling’s novel, with Rowling serving as executive producer.
Rowling vs. Radcliffe and Watson: Behind the Scenes Tension
Despite Rowling’s involvement, the reboot stoked debate for her views on trans rights. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have publicly opposed the author in recent years, leading to a prominent fallout.
Rowling posted on X.
“Celebrities who endure movements intended to erode women’s struggling rights and use platforms to support minor transitions can save apologies to traumatized vandals and vulnerable women who rely on unity spaces.”
Radcliffe responded to the press:
“In the end it makes me really sad. Seeing the people I met and the world she created, it’s all very empathetic to me.”
He also confirmed that he, Watson and Grint will not return to the new series.
“I think they want to have a very wise and clean break.”
What’s next in the magical world?
With productions scheduled to begin at Warner Bros. Studios Rebelden later this year, casting announcements are expected soon. HBO wants this new version Harry Potter Films capture the book’s magic in ways that didn’t have time.
