The T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA is just over a month away. The deadline to announce the squads has been set for May 1 and all former cricketers are busy making their own squads in India for this mega event. Harbhajan Singh was the latest to join this team and dropped Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill from his World Cup squad selected by Star Sports.
He chose Chennai Super Kings’ fitter Shivam Dube as the all-rounder and Ravindra Jadeja also joined the squad in the said role. Among the batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the only openers and the other specialists in the department are Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh. Harbhajan preferred Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson as wicketkeepers while twins Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal also joined his squad.
It is worth noting that Chahal is in great form for IPL 2024, but the last time he played for India was in a T20I in August last year against the West Indies. The brisk bowling department has a recent look in Harbhajan Singh’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup as he has not selected Mohammed Siraj, who is currently struggling to pick wickets with the recent ball. As expected, Jasprit Bumrah is one of the few certainties. Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh are the other brisk bowlers in the squad.
Interestingly, Harbhajan Singh went with the latest sensation Mayank Yadav as the last member of his Indian team for this mega event. The latter regularly exceeded 150 km/h this season, but due to an injury he has not played since April 7. The 21-year-old scored six goals in three games and won man of the match awards in his first two appearances.
