The announcement, although not unexpected, has disappointed many fans.
Rockstar slows down GTA 6 to ensure first-class quality
In a statement, Rockstar said the delay is for the game to meet “the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
It’s not the first time a rockstar has pushed back a major title. Their 2018 smash hit Red Dead Redemption 2 I also saw the delay – and was eventually raved about it. It is clear that companies prefer to spend more time than rushing out releases.
Still, the 12 years since the GTA V was released have been incredible. It is a very popular game thanks to its online mode and ranks as the second most selling video game to date.
GTA 6 slows fan anger after 12 years of waiting
While some gamers understand Rockstar’s meticulous approach, many people struggle with the news. “I’m absolutely furious,” 27-year-old Dienne Kawende said in an interview with BBC Newsbeat. “Now there’s a fire flowing through my body.”
Kawende said he got a job this year to save the PlayStation 5, hoping to play GTA 6 in the second half of 2025.
And he is not alone. All of social media, reactions ranged from disappointment to distrust. “When the GTA 5 was released, I was a teenager,” one user posted. “We’ll have a baby by the time GTA 6 comes out.”
GTA 6 Delay Reshape 2025 Game Release Calendar
This delay could shift the entire gaming industry release calendar. Many developers kept the announcement and release down, noting that they would play head-on with Rockstar’s Juggernaut. With the GTA 6 out of photography until mid-2026, some studios could move forward with their own big release.
Rockstar has had an official glimpse of the GTA 6 so far. This is a 90-second trailer released in December 2023, featuring two main characters, featuring a Florida-style setting called Leonida. The trailer broke records and recorded over 100 million viewings in record time.
Despite the delays, there is no doubt that when the GTA 6 launches, a new sales record will be set. And if the rockstar track record is true, fans’ patience – which may be painful – can be rewarded.
