A survey by Inklusiiiv revealed that over 60% of women experience harassment in the startup field.
In the modern world, the business atmosphere of start-ups is a big reflection of the current state of society, and unfortunately worsens for working women.
A survey of 526 respondents claimed that almost three of the six women experienced harassment at work.
In the local business sector, the perpetrators have proven to be managers in most cases.
Susanna Caravanien, the lead consultant at the Institute of Occupational Health, expressed shock at the report. “If most inappropriate treatments come from a management level, that’s pretty shocking. Managers are the ones who should be by example.”
Another concern was that over 40% of respondents felt they were revealing information about the persecution they observed.
“Many people don’t know or dare to report inappropriate behavior,” the investigator said.
Josefina Karkalainen, head of the new ethics committee for startups, is working on the issue. “This is a social issue and I hope other industries will make similar inquiries to get data. You can start with that data and take action.”
