If Warner Bros. newly announced Lord of the Rings idea for a movie The Hunt for Gollum it sounded a bit like fan fiction, because that’s what it is.
There is a fan-made film from 2009 called The Hunt for Gollum which you can watch below. The film directed by Chris Bouchard is quite ambitious. The Hunt for Gollum It is 39 minutes long and received a lot of praise from fans upon its release. The brief film is likely to tell the same story that will be explored in the upcoming feature film, which is being developed by producer Peter Jackson and his writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who “will be involved every step of the way.” Andy Serkis is set to direct and reprise his role as Gollum.
Fan-made Hunt Gollum it is set during the opening act Fellowship of the Ring and fulfills a mission that was only briefly touched upon in Jackson’s 2001 film: Gandalf (played briefly by Patrick O’Connor) meets with Aragorn (Adrian Webster) and asks him to hunt Gollum to learn more about Frodo’s magic ring. Aragorn goes on a series of adventures, gets trapped, loses Gollum, and is attacked by Orcs and Ringwraiths. Gollum is captured by the Mirkwood elves and interrogated by Gandalf.
Warner Bros. it came as a surprise VILLAIN announced on Thursday during its first-quarter earnings conference call and noted it Lord of the Rings: : The Hunt for Gollum was the working title.
However, the prospect of a film ostensibly centering around the tormented being that Jackson and Serkis so memorably brought to life in the original trilogy is being met with considerable skepticism from online fans. In the end, the CG character was more of a perfect supporting character – very specific, and alternately amusing and disgusting. Little Gollum has come a long way and has always been balanced by the solid performances of his traveling companions played by Elijah Wood (Frodo) and Sean Astin (Sam).
However, considering the plot suggested by the fan-made brief, the main character of the film may turn out to be Aragorn, with Gandalf and Gollum in more supporting roles.
It’s unclear whether the fan-made video helped inspire the WB project. But one suspects that the popularity of the video game The Lord of the Rings: Gollumwhich was released last year, was at least part of the inspiration for the project.
