Generating images using AI is fun and sometimes even useful, but the image generation usually takes place on a server controlled by someone else. If you’d rather have a native Mac app for this – one that works completely offline, making it completely private –TransmissionBee is what you are looking for.
This Mac-only app can download AI models to generate images and then run them entirely on your computer. Generating only takes a few seconds on Apple Silicon devices; Older Intel-based Macs are also supported, but image creation takes longer – about five minutes in my tests.

The app offers many different AI tools you can employ, from generating an image from text to modifying existing images. Before you can do anything, you need to download the models, and these models will take up several GB on your computer.
The text-to-image generator is probably the simplest: just type in what you want and you’ll get it. You can also provide an image and have it redone using the text prompt. The results are of course always correct, exactly what you would expect from an AI tool (in my sarcastic way of saying it, you may have to try a few different suggestions before you get the results you want).
Sometimes you will need to retry several times with a slightly different prompt.

Other features include the ability to remove objects from photos, the ability to create optical illusions, and the ability to scale low-resolution images. It’s basically an AI image creation playground and is completely free, so give it a try if you have a Mac.
