The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is suing 18 states that refused to hand over voter registration information following a series of requests made earlier this year.
The Justice Department said it wanted to inspect voter rolls to ensure they were clean and up-to-date, but some states said they feared the government had ulterior motives in requesting the information.
