To begin week two of the 2025 NFL season, the commander was on his path to facing the Packers. Both teams had their own week 1 victory and had strong outings.
However, Green Bay surpassed the commander in football on Thursday night. Despite the score being 27-18, the game never got close. Later in the fourth quarter, when he lost to the Packers, Commander RB Austin Ekeller suffered an unfortunate injury. The NFL Insider announced that Ekeller had torn Achilles against the commander. A big blow to Washington’s RB spin.
Who will step up to Washington after Austin Ekeller tore his Achilles?
This belief is torn apart for Austin Ekeller, sources say. He’s going to have an MRI, but there’s not much hope for him to go into it. https://t.co/z7uvwrr8tc

Prior to the 2024 season, the commander signed RB Austin Ekeller a two-year, $8.43 million contract. Last season he played 12 games and started six times in Washington. He missed four consecutive games near the end of 2024, but managed to return to Washington’s postseason run. A few weeks before the 2025 season, the commander swapped RB Brian Robinson Jr. for the 49ers. This means that Ekeller is seeing an increase in workload.
Additionally, the team has a seventh draft pick. Jacoley Crosskey Merritt, they believe in very much. Unfortunately, Washington’s backfield hit a hit with the commander on Thursday night. Austin Ekeller suffered an uncontact injury, but it’s almost certainly a torn Achilles. A devastating blow to what was a humble loss for the commander.

Entering the fourth quarter, the team was 17-3. Against the Packers at TNF, Ekeler finished the game with eight carries for 17 yards and two catches for seven yards. Washington has depth in RB, but will it take 2025 to the end? Put out the ekeler, Jacoley Croskey-Merritt will be the starting RB. He looked explosive throughout the first two games of his career. With a full workload, who knows his ceiling is with the commander?
With Jacoley Commander Crosskey Merritt also has Jeremy McNichols and Chris Rodriguez in the backfield. McNichols played for five teams in his NFL career. He spent the last two seasons with Washington. When Brian Robinson is traded and Austin Ekeller leaves, McNichols will see more time for the commander. Chris Rodriguez was a healthy scar in the first two games of the Washington season. Invisible circumstances may require coach Dan Quinn to give Rodriguez time. Their next game is Week 3 and the Las Vegas Raiders.
