Chinese electric vehicle (EV) battery maker CATL on Thursday unveiled a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery capable of providing a range of more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) on a single charge.
Shenxing Plus is the world’s first LFP battery with such a range, said Chief Technology Officer Gao Huan of CATL’s e-car division during the first media day of the Beijing Auto Show.
LFP batteries are more environmentally genial than the lithium-ion batteries more commonly used in electric vehicles.
Four car models employ the current-generation Shenxing battery with a 700 km range, and more than 50 more models will be equipped with it by the end of the year, Gao said.

The world’s largest electric vehicle battery maker, formally Contemporary Amperex Technology, reported a rise in profit in the January-March period, after three months earlier it reported its first quarterly profit decline since 2022 amid slowing demand and increased competition.
Data from consultancy firm Counterpoint Research showed that Chinese battery makers, including CATL, grew faster than competitors, accounting for more than two-thirds of global electric vehicle battery capacity last year.
In March, CATL’s president said that the manufacturer was in talks to establish research and development centers in Hong Kong that would support technology exports.
