China is to cut down the number of US films allowed in.
The move was announced by the Chinese Film Administration, shortly after President Donald Trump hiked 125% tariffs on Chinese products yesterday (April 9).
“The misbehavior of the US government to abuse tariffs on China will inevitably further reduce the favorability of domestic audiences for American films,” the Chinese Film Administration said in a statement. “We follow market rules, respect the choices of our audience, and moderately reduce the number of imported American films.”

China currently maintains an official quota for 34 foreign revenue sharing films per year, according to the MPA.
The Chinese Film Bureau only allows foreign film importers and two distributors. Both are state-owned companies, China Film Group and Huaxia Film Distribution Company.
Unpredictable approval by Beijing has reduced efforts by US studios to release or promote films in China.
Chinese films have also proven to be increasingly popular with local audiences.
