Doha Film Festival selects 5 films including Chie Hayakawa’s work for the 1st International Feature Competition renoir.
The film will be screened as part of the festival from November 20 to 28 at venues including Katara Cultural Village, Msheireb Downtown Doha and the Museum of Islamic Art.

Guillermo García López was also selected for this section. The city that never sleeps;Jean-François Lavagnan the last shore;Pablo Perez Lombardini’s The Reserve; and Ali Asghari’s Divine Comedy.
Set in Tokyo in 1987, renoir The film follows an eccentric and sensitive 11-year-old girl as she deals with her terminally ill father and stressed-out working mother, while meeting other adults who have their own struggles.
The film debuted in competition at Cannes this year and has since been screened at film festivals in Karlovy Vary, Toronto, Busan and others.

“The films in the International Feature Film Competition share a deep commitment to authentic storytelling and reflect our shared belief in the transformative power of film,” said Fatma Hassan Alremayhi, Festival Director and CEO of the Doha Film Institute (DFI).

At a launch during this year’s Cannes, the festival announced that over $300,000 in competition prizes will be given away in four competitive categories. Further films for the inaugural edition of the festival will be announced in the coming weeks. The festival opens with the music of Kauser Ben Hania. The Void of Hind Rajab.
