The Arizona Cardinals are 2-5 after starting the 2025 season 2-0. It was their fifth consecutive loss with a total difference of 13 points. Two of the five losses were decided by just one point.
Arizona has been without starting QB Kyler Murray for the past two games. Murray injured his leg during a 22-21 loss to the Titans in Week 5. Reserve Jacoby Brissett was forced to start for the second straight game for the Cardinals. ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss reported that the Cardinals expect Kyler Murray to return for Monday Night Football against the Cowboys in Week 9.
Can Kyler Murray get the Cardinals back on track after losing five straight?

Kyler Murray suffered a foot injury in Week 5 against the Tennessee Titans. The former No. 1 overall pick was forced to miss Weeks 6 and 7 with Arizona. Additionally, the team suffered a bye in Week 8. This gave Kyler Murray extra time to rest and recover. Arizona is desperate to get back in the win column and make it to the NFC. But three other teams in the same division already have five wins. The Cardinals have a lot of work to do to catch up.
Veteran backup Jacoby Brissett started two games for the Cardinals while Kyler Murray was out. In two games, he had 599 passing yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. However, Arizona State was unable to win either contest. Kyler Murray will be healthy for Week 9, and head coach Jonathan Gannon expects to have his starting quarterback back against Dallas.

As of 2025, the Dallas Cowboys were struggling defensively and their play was inconsistent. Their offense is second best in the NFL this season, scoring 30.8 points per game in 2025. However, the defense is allowing 31.3 points per game, second worst in the NFL behind the Bengals. This bodes well for Kyler Murray and the Cardinals in Week 9.
This is a great opportunity for the Cardinals offense to perform at its best in 2025. This season, the Cowboys defense is allowing an average of 258.6 passing yards per game. Through five starts through 2025, Kyler Murray is averaging just 192.4 passing yards per game. Will production increase in Week 9 or will Arizona collapse against Dallas? The Cardinals will play at MNF in Week 9 against the Cowboys.
