exclusive: Eric K. Boulian Follies, The film, about a couple exploring polyamory after 16 years together, attracted buyers from multiple regions after its world premiere for Totem Films at the Locarno Film Festival in August.
The film was sold to Switzerland (Frenetic), the Baltics (Kino Pavasaris), Germany and Austria (Filmperlen), Spain (Flamingo), Portugal (Alambique), and Taiwan (Cineplex).
Frenetic Films co-director Mischa Siwau says the film “captivated me with its irreverence and infectious humor.” Kino Pavasalis’ head of acquisitions, Dovire Grigaliunaite, described the film as “a modern love story that is honest, uncomfortable, funny and sad, just as real life often is.”
After winning the Junior Jury Special Award at the Locarno International Film Festival, the film had its North American premiere in the Centerpiece section at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize at the Calgary International Film Festival.
Boulianne co-stars with Catherine Chabot in her debut film, playing a longtime married couple living in Montreal with their two children who decide to open up their relationship to explore new sexual possibilities with multiple partners, but complications arise. Produced by Coop Vidéo de Montréal and released in Canada by Entract Films on January 30, 2026.
