Biscuits recalled in parts of Spain due to possible metal contamination

Batches of biscuits in parts of Spain have been recalled after food manufacturers say they can be contaminated by metal particles.

Spain’s Food Safety and Nutrition Agency (AESAN) sent a health warning about potential contamination as a precaution after the company warned its agents.

The recall applies to Orange Biscuits from Fontaneda Brand Pim with batch number OHT1153212.

“People who have products affected by this vigilance at home should refrain from consuming them,” Aesan said.

The accumulation of metal contaminants in the human body can have a negative long-term health impact and can cause damage to the nervous system, liver and kidneys.

Batches were first distributed in seven regions of Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Castila La Mancha, Catalonia, Cantabria, Valencia and the Basque country. However, the possibility of redistribution to other communities is not ruled out.

Mondelēz International said it is committed to maintaining the safety and quality of its products.

“This situation only affects this particular batch,” the company said. “The rest of the Mondels Spain’s Fontaneda product portfolio will not be affected.”
