Modern Delhi: In his brief address at the briefing session at the recent G7 summit held in Italy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched on three key aspects on which India is prioritizing: technology and artificial intelligence, energy security and affordability, and last-mile service delivery stage to their people.
On technology in particular, Prime Minister Modi called on world leaders who gathered in Italy to come together to ensure that the benefits of technology reach all sections of society to harness the potential of every person in society. He also emphasized helping to eliminate social inequalities and expanding people’s rights instead of limiting them.
“The 21st century is the century of technology. There is almost no area of human life without the influence of technology. On the one hand, technology gives courage to take man to the Moon, but on the other hand, it creates challenges such as cyber security,” Prime Minister Modi said in his speech.
In particular, he suggested transforming technological monopolies into mass exploitation. “We need to transform technology monopoly into mass utilize.”
Monopolization means complete control over something that prevents other people or companies from having any share, influence or access.
“We need to make technology inventive, not destructive. Only then will we be able to lay the foundations for an inclusive society, said the Prime Minister.
India, he said, strives for a better future through its people-centric approach. India is one of the few countries that have developed a National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
India has taken the path of building public digital infrastructure to serve its citizens, exemplified by UPI, Jan Dhan, Aadhar, ONDC and CoWin. The Indian government’s main focus has been on ensuring that the benefits of innovation are not circumscribed to India; other countries benefit from it too.
He also touched on the issue of AI mission. He said the mission comes from the mantra of “AI for all.”
As a founding member and principal chairman of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, Prime Minister Modi said that India promotes cooperation among all countries.
“At the G20 Summit hosted by India last year, we highlighted the importance of international governance in the field of AI. In the time ahead, we will continue to work with all countries to make artificial intelligence clear, fair, secure, accessible and accountable,” the Prime Minister added.
When it comes to the utilize of artificial intelligence, India has always taken the position that the Internet and any other emerging technology should be implemented in a “secure and trustworthy” manner.
At the invitation of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister Modi traveled to the Puglia region of Italy to attend the G7 Information Summit held earlier this week. It was his first foreign visit since taking office for the third consecutive term. (OR)
