At least two people were killed and 18 injured in the city of Zaporidia, Russia’s Zaporidia city in southeastern Ukraine, overnight Tuesday, officials said.
Two children, including a four-year-old, were among the injured, according to Zaporidia’s regional governor, Ivan Fedorov.
The overnight attack, reported by Ukraine State Emergency Services (SES), has hit the city on at least 10 strikes, causing a massive fire that damages homes and property.
Images released by SES show firefighters fighting massive fires not only in transport trucks but also in private homes and other buildings.
The Ukrainian air force confirmed the attack and said Russia had fired multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) shells, believed to be tornado rockets at Zaporidia.
Since launching a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, Russia has occupied parts of the Zaporisia region, bombarding and firing the area.
The attack on the city nearly a day caused dozens, if not more, deaths and casualties.
Meanwhile, local officials from the city in the northern city reported that a series of Russian strikes, which took place around 2:30am local time (1:30am), had temporarily knocked out electricity across the city.
According to Governor Ole Frikholov, Russian drones attacked twice overnight, hitting non-resident areas.
