AR Rahman, the Oscar-winning music composer, has presented the first announcement and trailer of his latest production Headhunting to Beatboxing, which is a feature-length music documentary. Directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by AR Rahman, Headhunting to Beatboxing delves into the intriguing journey of rhythm and sound, showcasing the development of music across countries, tribes and generations.
Speaking about the documentary, Rahman said, “Music has the transformative power to transform society, connect and give meaning to existence. Headhunting for Beatboxing is a celebration of this universal rhythm that unites humanity in its diverse manifestations. We can’t wait to start our festival journey, and what better way than Cannes to celebrate cinema with the first film announcement.”
The launch event was held at the Bharat Pavilion in Cannes, where director AR Rahman Rohit Gupta, executive producer Abu Metha, Theja Meru and other guests and dignitaries were present. Taking to Instagram, Rahman also shared the first look for his fans.

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Nagaland, said, “The germ of the idea was born when AR Rahman visited Nagaland to attend the legendary Hornbill Festival. We knew we had to be part of it. The film is a collaboration between many inventive minds, especially TaFMA, masterfully captured by director Rohit Gupta. The real heroes are the musicians of Nagaland who tell stories dating back to time immemorial and their music exemplifies the ambition of our youth.
The film is Rahman’s second major foray into the world of cinema as a producer – his previous production was “99 Songs”. Executive producers include Abu Metha, Adam J. Greig, Theja Meru, Rohit Gupta, Sheila Houlahan and Rohhit Daas.
