According to reports, Apple is planning to introduce several crucial modern features for the iPhone with the iOS 18 update. The Cupertino-based technology giant is expected to unveil the modern operating system at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 scheduled for June 10. A modern report now claims that the company may introduce custom artificial intelligence (AI)-powered emojis that will appear depending on what the user is texting. Users can also get the app icon customization feature which will allow them to change the color of the app icons as they wish.
According to Power On bulletin by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman Apple intends to introduce many modern iPhone features in iOS 18. While many of these features could employ artificial intelligence, some of them would also provide greater personalization of the existing interface. Moving on to the AI features, Gurman says custom emojis could be showcased at WWDC 24.
iOS 18 will reportedly get custom AI-powered emojis
Artificial intelligence features have become a major topic of conversation for Apple. It was previously reported that the company would add AI-powered conversation skills to Siri. Now Gurman says iPhone users will also see AI features when they type text into the messaging app. iOS 18 may introduce custom AI-powered emojis that will be outside the existing emoji library that users receive.
The report explains how the feature might work and states that custom emojis can be created automatically based on what the user types. For example, if a user writes “Elated Diwali”, the AI can understand the text and suggest a unique emoji relating to the Indian festival. The report did not mention whether there will be any guidelines to stop people from abusing this feature and generating obscene emojis.
iOS 18 is expected to introduce app icon customization
According to reports, the iPhone home screen will also receive a major upgrade. Apple could ditch the standard app grid that has existed since the first iPhone and let users place app icons wherever they want. Additionally, users may also be able to change the color of the app icons.
The latter can lend a hand you group similar apps together. For example, all social media apps can be changed to the same color for easier identification. The ability to place icons anywhere will also allow users to unleash their creativity and arrange icons according to their preferences. These and other solutions will be available for iPhone on June 10, when Apple officially presents iOS 18.
