Just when you were enjoying the moment of your tiny, natural nails, trendsetter Anya Taylor-Joy is changing the rules of the game – as usual. Upcoming star Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga she barely allowed us to breathe with her seemingly endless parade of flawless Cannes outfits, including her awe-inspiring brilliance. First she had everyone wondering about her earnest chop with her faux bob (cleverly achieved thanks to a sun hat), and now all eyes were on her hands. The actor’s nude nails added a bit of drama to each ensemble with their longer length and edgy shape, a departure from the shorter styles recently sported by stars like Olivia Rodrigo, Zendaya and Selena Gomez.
Taylor-Joy’s notable manicure was the work of a nail technician Emi Kudo, which also refreshed tips for fellow Cannes festival attendees like Bella Hadid and Lily Gladstone. In an Instagram post, Kudo explains step-by-step how she managed to achieve the style star’s eye-catching claws. First, she sharpened the actor’s existing set design (by another manicurist to the stars, Thuy Nguyen) in the shape of a slender almond and cleansed the cuticles with the nourishing Après serum. Then she submitted her application A forgotten movie, an ivory hybrid varnish from the same brand, applied to the base layer and finished with a top coat. Finally, the nail technician added miniature rhinestones to the ring fingers of both Taylor-Joy’s hands for extra sparkle.
The genius of Kudo’s manicure is that while the extra-long shape adds a vampy, campy touch to all of Taylor-Joy’s Cannes looks, its minimalist details and neutral tone make it truly versatile. So if you’ve been wanting to go back to long nails (at least for a while), this particular style will lend a hand you gain more mileage.
