American airlines on Friday he said Boeing Delays in 787 Dreamliner deliveries are forcing it to cut some long-haul flights in the second half of the year and into early 2025, with the newest carrier changing its flight schedule amid the planemaker’s production woes.
American expects to receive three Dreamliners this year, up from six, A reported reporting on Thursday. Boeing said earlier this week that parts shortages would prevent it from increasing production of its wide-body planes.
“We are making these changes now to ensure we are able to re-accommodate passengers on affected flights,” American said in a statement. “We will be actively contacting affected customers to offer alternative travel arrangements. We remain committed to our customers and team members and mitigate the impact of these delays while offering a comprehensive global network.”
American will suspend some routes to Europe at the end of the summer. Here’s what’s changing:
- Flights from the international airport John F. Kennedy from Novel York to Athens will be suspended on September 3. The previous seasonal connection was scheduled to end on October 26.
- Flights from Novel York to Barcelona will be suspended on September 3. So far, the connection has been available year-round and will be resumed next year.
- Flights from Dallas/Fort Worth International to Dublin and Rome, which were scheduled as year-round flights, will now be suspended on October 26 and will return next year.
- Flights from Chicago O’Hare to Paris will end on September 3 and will resume next year.
Starting Aug. 5, American will offer just one daily flight between Novel York and Rome instead of two daily flights, and service between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Kona, Hawaii, will not operate this winter.
American said it will continue to offer 55 long-haul international routes this winter, and in January it will add daily nonstop service between Philadelphia and Barcelona, as well as seasonal service between Miami and Montevideo, Uruguay. Three-times-daily flights between Miami and Sao Paulo will also be added.
The carrier said the airline continues to evaluate its flight schedule due to the Boeing 737 Max delays.
Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Correction: American Airlines will add three daily flights between Miami and Sao Paulo. A previous version of this story mischaracterized the timeline.
