Kabir Khan, the director who has made films like Bajrangi Bhaijan, Kabul Express and 83, delves into the biography of Paralympic gold medalist and 2018 Padma Shri awardee Shri Murlikant Petkar. An inspiring, based on true story of a juvenile boy who begins his adventure with wrestling, and then life’s ups and downs lead him to become a boxing champion, a Paralympic athlete in javelin throw, table tennis, even slalom skiing and a gold medalist in swimming.
With such an inspiring life, the movie should be amazing, right? Evil. This paint-by-numbers film stumbles and wavers between wanting to be Milkha Singh and Lakshya, but ultimately fails to inspire because it tries too tough.

So what will a wise investor do with such a film? Elementary. Of course, wait until it releases on an OTT platform. You’ll save money on tickets and be able to quickly skim through memorable songs and standard characters spouting predictable dialogue. Plus, there are two money lessons to learn.
Win an Olympic gold medal and become a champion!
All the kids in the village laugh at Murlikant Petkar’s life goal of becoming an Olympic gold medalist, calling him “chandu master” (master of losers). His father does not allow him to learn wrestling and beats him because he repeatedly fails in school. When he escapes and joins the army, the other recruits also laugh at his ambition. His opponents in the ring laugh at him, and he wins every boxing match except one. Life is not straightforward for him, during the war he was hit by nine bullets, one of which stuck in his spine, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Despite this, he does not give up and takes part in the Paralympic Games, winning his first gold medal in the 50 m freestyle race.

He even tries to sue the government for the Arjuna Award for his achievements, but is ignored. It is only after a journalist and the local police find out that the army is forced to look into his records, and as a result, he is awarded the Padma Shri.
As an investor, you will be the first to realize that some of your investments may fail. But you must learn from Murlikant the rule “never say die.” Focus on the gold medal and work to make your dreams come true.
Predictability can be tedious
The film is full of boringly predictable characters: an livid policeman who berates Murlikant but ends up listening to his story; A friend of Murli, a sardarji in the army who helps him with instructions on English and boxing, but it is known that he will die; military drill sergeant; army recruits dancing the “Hawan Karenge” dance a la Milkha; a boxing trainer nicknamed “the tiger”; Murlikant is turned away from his goal by a girl during the Tokyo Army matches only to lose the next match; a strict head nurse in a military hospital.

Each of these characters is deadly tedious to watch, even though Vijay Raaz as Murlikant’s boxing trainer adds some relief to the event. But it’s Kartik Aryan’s terrible hairstyle that shows what Bollywood thinks about village idiots. The refrain of ‘satyanash, satyanash’ from the song in the film keeps coming up as we see Kartik Aryan pout in scene after scene to make himself believe that he is acting.
Astute investors like you will see these standard features in every modern financial offering. Although dressed in tender feathers and phrases, there is nothing electrifying about them.
