In an explanation published on June 11, the Up-to-date York Times stated: “Marubo people are not addicted to pornography. There was no mention of it in the forest, and no suggestion of it in The Up-to-date York Times article. The article explained that the Marubo leader expressed concern about minors sharing pornographic material on WhatsApp groups, stressing that Marubo culture strictly discourages public displays of affection.
Elon Musk’s answer
Musk responded to these claims after the Up-to-date York Times issued a clarification. User X (formerly Twitter) posted a screenshot of the Up-to-date York Times update, criticizing the original article for its inaccuracies. Musk responded: “It was disrespectful and rude for The Up-to-date York Times to say something like that about the tribe.”
This is not Musk’s first conflict with the Up-to-date York Times. Last year, he criticized the publication for refusing to pay for Twitter Blue, calling its actions “hypocritical” and calling its content “unreadable.”Also read: Anushka Sharma’s outburst of rage after India vs Pak T20 World Cup match goes viral: Fans say she looks like Aarfa from ‘Sultan’
Marubo leader debunks the claims
Enoque Marubo, leader of the Marubo tribe, also rejected false claims about his community. Enoque, who has introduced Starlink to his tribe’s villages, said the allegations are baseless and disrespectful to the tribe’s autonomy and identity.
In a video shared on Instagram, Enoque, president of the Marubo ethnic association in Kapyvanaway, stated: “I refute the bogus news allegedly circulating around the world claiming that internet access in our communities results in porn addiction.”
