Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently commented on the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) technology, asserting that while progress has been made, the current state of artificial intelligence does not pose an existential threat to humanity. This announcement follows Meta Llama 3 recently unveiling its latest version of its AI chatbot.
In a private conversation with The Verge, Zuckerberg highlighted Llama 3’s impressive capabilities, emphasizing its increased performance and reasoning abilities. Meta plans to integrate these improvements with its AI assistant, Meta AI, across all of its platforms, including Instagram.
Despite advances in artificial intelligence, Zuckerberg maintains that current models, including Meta models, have not reached a level of sophistication that warrants existential concerns. It assures the public that all artificial intelligence initiatives, including those undertaken by Meta, do not pose such a risk in the foreseeable future.
Zuckerberg also put Meta’s vision for transparency into action by considering making Lama open source for public and research operate. However, it acknowledges that caution needs to be exercised, particularly with multimodal applications of AI such as image generation, which could have significant consequences in contexts such as elections.
Meanwhile, the ongoing rivalry between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Tesla boss Elon Musk has flared up again, sparking novel talk about a possible “fight.” In response to user X’s (formerly known as Twitter) suggestion, billionaire Musk stated: “I’m ready to fight Zuck anytime, anywhere, on any terms. LFG!!!”
