Kolkata: Jadavpur University’s department of computer science and engineering is set to offer two specializations in its PG program this year for the first time: artificial intelligence and data analytics and internet of things (IoT). Head of Department Nandini Mukhopadhyay said: “For the first time, we are introducing specializations in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Internet of Things in our Master’s program as these are fresh fields of study in academia. The admission capacity in the PG program is around 36.” Some other engineering departments, such as mechanical, civil, electrical, electronics and telecommunications engineering, already have specializations in master’s degrees. Mukhopadhyay added that she had always thought of introducing courses on artificial intelligence and IoT as the department has good faculty who conduct research in areas such as machine learning, IoT and data science. “The interest of our UG students in these two specialized fields also motivated us to launch them this year,” she said. Currently, the department is focusing on revising its master’s degree programs. According to Mukhopadhyay, some of the crucial elements that the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science course will cover are Machine Learning, Advanced Artificial Intelligence, Data Visualization, Deep Learning, Advanced Algorithms and Hyper-Computing.
