In a letter dated May 28, the DCP directed traffic inspectors to instruct all personnel under their jurisdiction not to stop vehicles or issue summonses at night.If the issuance of an order is deemed necessary under the MV Act, it shall be done only in accordance with the regulations and with the consent of the officer/undersigned concerned. The DCP also stated that strict action will be taken against any police officer who fails to comply with these rules.

The department said the guidance was issued in response to numerous complaints in this regard traffic police workers on night duty stopped their vehicles unnecessarily. This decision is aimed at smoothing traffic in Gurugram during night time and reducing road inconvenience to residents.
“The undersigned has received information that traffic police officers deployed at night are unnecessarily stopping and harassing ordinary people’s vehicles and are also unnecessarily issuing vehicle summonses.”
The letter further said, “Traffic personnel deployed at night should play an crucial role of traffic police, Gurugram by guiding and assisting common people and motorists and arranging sheltered routes to take them to their destination and in case of road accident. injured persons should be immediately admitted to the nearest trauma center, vehicles involved in the accident should be immediately removed from the main road and allowed for polished traffic.” (With inputs from ANI).
