Sanjay Dutt took to his Instagram today and remembered his Nargis on his 95th birth anniversary. Nargis is widely known as one of the greatest performers of all time, performing in various genres ranging from comedy to drama. She began her film career as a leading actress in the early 1940s and continued acting until 1967. Her last appearance was in the psychological thriller Raat Aur Din. She made her screen debut with a compact role at the age of five in the film Talash-E-Haq (1935), but her acting career began with the film Tamanna (1942).
Sanjay Dutt shared a photo of himself and his mother Nargis on Instagram. Alongside the photo, he wrote in the caption: “Ecstatic birthday mom, I miss you every day, every minute, every second. I wish you were with me and lived the life you wanted me to live and I hope I made you proud of me. I love and miss you, mom.” Sanjay Dutt’s wife Manayata commented in the comment section with heart emojis.
In the early 1980s, Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died on May 3, 1981. Nargis and actor Sunil Dutt fell in love after a fire broke out on the set of their 1957 film Mother India, which was said to have saved her. They are said to have come closer while recovering from injuries. The couple married on March 11, 1958.
Her best-known role was as Radha in the Oscar-nominated Mother India (1957), a performance that won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In the 1960s, she rarely appeared in films. Her films from this period include the drama Raat Aur Din (1967), for which she won the inaugural National Film Award for Best Actress.
With her husband, Nargis founded the cultural troupe Ajanta Arts, which employed some of the leading actors and singers of the time and organized stage performances in the border areas. The award for the best feature film on national integration at the annual Film Awards ceremony is called the Nargis Dutt Award.
In the early 1970s, Nargis became the first patron of The Spastic Society of India, and her subsequent work with the organization earned her recognition as a social worker and later a nomination to the Rajya Sabha in 1980. Nargis Dutt was the second actor, the first being Prithvi. Raj Kapoor was nominated . She was in the Rajya Sabha for two years, 1980 and 1981. She was also awarded the Padma Shri in 1958. In Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, the role of Nargis was played by Sanju actor Manisha Koirala.
