Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), one of the most popular teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), are likely to find themselves in a very challenging situation to qualify for the play-offs. This became especially evident after Delhi Capital (DC) defeated Gujarat Titans by four runs in a thrilling match on Wednesday.
RCB are at the bottom of the points table with just 2 points from eight matches and a negative run rate of 1.046. The team won only one match and lost all the remaining seven despite having stars like Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik. None of his batsmen have shown any consistency with the bat. Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green have been flop acts so far.
With just 2 points from eight games, their chances of securing the playoffs are slim. However, even the impossible becomes possible when RCB, which boasts the likes of Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green and Dinesh Karthik in its ranks, has six matches left to play.
How can RCB qualify for the playoffs?
RCB has just 2 points with a terrible NRR of -1.046. The team must win all remaining games to make the playoffs. RCB’s clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday is of utmost importance. Today’s defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad will completely ruin their chances of qualifying.
To secure a place in the final four, RCB need:
To ensure victory in the remaining matches
To improve their NRR, they need to win most of these games by a enormous margin. (Currently RCB’s NNR is negative)
Then the scores of all the remaining nine teams should drop in their favor
Rajasthan Royals (RR) already have 14 points from 8 matches and have a NNR of 0.698. The team still has 6 games to play. The next three best teams (KKR, SHR, LSG) have 10 points each. These 3 teams need two wins each in the remaining 7 or 6 matches to get 14 points, which RCB can also get if they win all their matches.
