According to the report, GenAI-enabled smartphones contributed 6% to global smartphone sales. The report also said that these models accounted for over 70% of the premium segment (priced above Rs 50,000).
Best-selling GenAI-enabled smartphones
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series dominated the GenAI-enabled smartphone market in Q1 2024. Samsung Galaxy S24 models took the top three places on the bestseller list. The Galaxy S24 Ultra became a bestseller, gaining over 30% of the market share, surpassing the combined share of the next two smartphones – the Galaxy S24 Plus and the basic variant of the Galaxy S24.
The South Korean brand secured a 58% share in the GenAI segment. Features like chat/notes assistance, circle search, and live translation that have become popular among users have helped the company achieve this feat.

Chinese brands secured six places in the top ten. Xiaomi 14 and Vivo X100 models took fourth and fifth place, respectively. Brands like Xiaomi, Vivo, Honor, and OPPO are also integrating GenAI features into their products, including AI-generated portraits, AI erasing tools, and advanced offline virtual assistants.
The report also noted that China is the world’s largest market for GenAI-enabled smartphones, having captured a third of the global market.
Growing demand for GenAI-enabled smartphones
The report adds that in the first quarter of 2024, the number of smartphone models supporting GenAI increased from 16 to over 30. This proves the growing interest of brands in this segment.
Analysts expect GenAI-enabled smartphones to account for 11% of the total smartphone market in 2024 as recent applications emerge and consumer awareness of this segment increases.
Media-centric features and personalized virtual assistants are expected to be key drivers of adoption. On the hardware side, the availability of more GenAI-enabled chipsets from major semiconductor manufacturers at affordable prices will continue to support the segment’s growth.
Moreover, Apple is expected to enter the GenAI market with its iPhone 16 line later this year.
