Dermot Mulroney said he knew who was to blame for not getting another acting role after 1997 My best friend’s wedding.
The actor, who starred alongside Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett in the Oscar-nominated romantic comedy, recently said Fresh York Times that he had few acting opportunities after its premiere, even though it was a successful film.
“I was sitting there ready for the gift of a purchase to go with an appearance in a popular movie, and instead I probably didn’t work for a year,” Mulroney explained. “I attribute it to the fact that I’m such a diminutive little guy in the poster, the little guy on the cake. I thought, “God, guys, if I were a little bigger, maybe I could get a job.”
My best friend’s weddingdirected by PJ Hogan, tells the story of a woman who realizes she is in love with her longtime friend after he announces that he is engaged, leading her to try to win him over in the days before the wedding.
However, after the hit 1997 film, Mulroney still found a way to continue his career in Hollywood, subsequently appearing in dozens of other projects. And recently he returned to the romantic comedy genre Everyone but youwho plays Bea’s (Sydney Sweeney) father.
As a veteran of romantic comedies, he also said Times that he shared advice with the film’s other main character, Glen Powell, about the impact of these types of films.
“I didn’t want him to do what I did, which was to minimize the importance of something that might seem lithe or fluffy when you’re doing it,” Mulroney said. “What these films mean to people,” I told Glen, “will last for decades.” This will continue until you leave, in a way that maybe the other cold things he does won’t. It has a different kind of absorption.”
