Survivor officially the end of an era has come to an end with the end of the Sia Awards.
Jeff Probst, host of the long-running CBS series, revealed on social media Friday that the pop star will no longer be handing out money to his beau. Survivor players every season.
“After eight years, 14 seasons, 19 players and over $1,000,000 awarded, Survivor officially brings the Sia Award to a triumphant end!” – he wrote on his Instagram Story. “Sia has brought so much joy to so many players over the years and it has always come straight from her heart.”
Probst added: “It is therefore with enormous gratitude and admiration for Sia that we end one of the most unique relationships a television series could ever have with a pop star with Sia’s global power. I’m truly honored Survivor have this unique association with Sia. She is in Survivor Superfan Hall of Fame!”
The “Chandelier” artist began her tradition with the reality competition show in 2016 during the season 32 finale Survivor: Kaôh Rōng – Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty.
“I still remember vividly the day Sia stood in the audience during the live finale… and walked out on stage,” Probst recalls of the moment. “She was very busy with Tai [Trang]for his commitment to protecting the chicken from being eaten, she awarded him $50,000 of her own money.”
The host continued in his post, “Tai was shocked, the audience was shocked, I was shocked! What was happening? Sia was on stage wearing a wig and handing out money Survivor player!? This was the beginning of what became affectionately known as the “Sia Award.”
The singer-songwriter then rewarded 18 more players with various amounts of money, including seven players who each received $100,000.
The Sia Award is not officially affiliated with Survivor franchise as the winner of the show wins a $1 million prize.
