Jan-Henrik Lafrentz, board member and CEO of Bentley Motors, speaking to TOI Auto and a group of publications, highlighted India’s potential as a major growth market. Despite the brand’s relatively petite sales volumes in the country, Lafrentz emphasized the strategic importance of this market.
Bentley India will soon be operational with a modern brand director and after-sales and marketing specialists. This unit will report to the regional headquarters in Dubai, similar to Porsche India’s reporting structure.
Bentley India currently operates through Exclusive Motors with facilities in Modern Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Existing dealers will continue their operations. Additionally, the British brand is in the process of looking for a modern dealer in Bengaluru to expand its reach and service capabilities in South India. Preference will be given to partners with experience in luxury car retail sales.
Bentley Bentayga EWB review: Longer but better? | TOI Auto
Bentley is one of ten brands that are part of the Volkswagen Group. In India, other luxury brands such as Porsche and Lamborghini also operate under the group’s umbrella, importing vehicles via the fully built-up route (FBU). Last year, Bentley sold 80 cars, with the Bentayga SUV accounting for more than 60 percent of sales. Additionally, the brand sees significant potential for its Flying Spur luxury car on our shores, given its long wheelbase, height-adjustable air suspension and luxurious rear seat – all of which suit Indian customer preferences and road conditions in the country.
The brand’s popularity in India is evidenced by the fact that during a recent auction of the last W12-powered Bentley, an Indian customer bought two of the three models, each for £1 million (approximately Rs. 10 crore). excluding very high customs duties and local taxes).
Additionally, five special edition cars recently ordered by Exclusive Motors for India are believed to have already found owners. These include one Continental GT Speed, one Flying Spur Speed and three Bentayga EWB Azure models, all finished in Scarab Green with bespoke interiors paying homage to the Indian tricolor.
