We’re not exactly sure why, but automotive TV shows usually aren’t very good. Even if you ignore all the “Yelling Goatee Man Garage” reality shows, you’re usually better off looking a good show that also features some chilly cars, like Breaking Bad, than watching a show that’s more like a car show. Remember first season American slot machine? There’s a reason the series was canceled after two seasons. However, this may change soon when Tires premieres on Netflix.
As you can see in the trailer below, the series centers on a character named Shane, played by comedian and extremely short-lived Saturday Night Live cast member Shane Gillis, who works for his cousin. Will (Steve Gerben) has recently inherited a chain of auto repair shops from his deceased father, and things aren’t going well. Will Will be able to turn around his failing business or will Shane ruin everything?
It’s not the most invigorating premise, but it works. The script and acting will be much more vital. The good news is that Stavros Halkias is also in the cast, which definitely gives us more confidence that the series will be really entertaining. Plus the trailer makes the show look really good? We won’t be able to tell for sure until we have a chance to watch the six episodes that aired today, but Netflix has also already renewed its contract for a second season, so that’s another promising sign. American slot machineon the other hand, he definitely looked bad in the trailer.
At least it’s worth watching the trailer, and if you have Netflix, it’s worth watching at least a few episodes. And maybe when the morning news dies down, Rory will let me watch an episode or two so I can tell you whether it’s really good or not. (OK, FINE – RC)
